Can marketing kill a category? 😳

With the ban of real money gaming apps~ the dent to advertising expenditure is estimated to be around ₹10,000 crores

From TVCs to celebrity endorsements, from sponsoring sports leagues to social media ads- there was no escape from their allure of making a quick buck.

High decibel campaigns designed to trigger FOMO were aired non stop.

Dreams were sold in clever, creative punchlines like “Jo life mein khelta hai woh poker bhi khel sakta hai“.

The ban on Real Money Gaming is not government’s doing.

It’s actually the “undoing” of the Real Money Gaming industry itself.

More specifically their marketing.

In their desperation to legitimise this category – they were so blatant, loud, misleading and in-your-face that it was borderline vulgar.

The greed to grow at all costs did them in. Not the government.
