Insights and idlis

On idlis and intentionality 😅

Went to the legendary Veena stores for breakfast over the weekend.

The place is known for serving the best idlis in town ❤️

They have a limited menu, idli, vada, upma and just few more items. They don’t even serve sambar (the eternal soulmate of idli).

Yet people still queue outside every morning and the place is always packed.

Bengaluru is crowded with Sagars and Darshinis selling a much elaborate South Indian fare. Some even serving multiple cuisines.

Among the host of these indistinguishable eateries trying to serve everything to everyone, Veena Stores stands tall with its limited menu and no frills setting.

Of course their idlis are great 👌

The fact that they sell just few items gives Veena Stores an aura of expertise and a specialist 🧑🍳

Which in this case is actually true 💯

That’s the thing.

Sometimes things you choose “not to do” also add to your reputation just like the things you choose to do.

It cues an intentionality that you are not chasing everything and an implicit commitment that whatever you do, you will do it really well 🫡

If you want to build a legendary brand, remember that it’s far better to offer one great product/ service than offering many things that just pass the threshold of acceptable quality. (Like Darshinis and Sagars)

Do few things but do them really well 🙏
